The closer I get to launching my kids into the world as adults the more I am motivated to make sure life skills for teens is a part of our homeschool in an intentional way. With Outside the Box kids learning can happen at a different pace than their peers, but eventually they need all the same skills. We make teaching in the moment a priority and include them in discussions when we can.
the fact that we are a Jewish homeschool family differentiates us the most because there are very few Jewish homeschoolers. In fact, I helped create the very first Jewish homeschool curriculum, Ani VeAmi, which means “I and my people.”
Before I homeschooled my kids, I spent over a decade working as a teacher in traditional schools. I thought that this experience would be great preparation for homeschooling my kids, and in some ways it is. But in other ways, I think that my experience in traditional schools makes it harder to homeschool my kids.
Homeschooling an only child is a unique journey, but one that we wouldn’t trade for the world! We love our little family of three and the freedom and joy that homeschooling has given us.
Every family has their own culture and things that they enjoy doing together. At our house, it’s reading together as a family and sharing stories. Even with two middle schoolers, a highlight of each day is bedtime stories where Dad reads to everyone.
