"I didn’t become the mother I thought I would, I became the mother my kids needed."
I’m Cynthia, a homeschooling mom to three wonderfully out-of-the-box kids since 2014, and the creator of the CALM DAYS™ framework.
Normal at our house includes two trampolines, swings both indoors and outdoors, a collection of pencils in every size imaginable, and an entire room dedicated to LEGO creations. Learning doesn’t always happen at a desk, and our homeschool rarely looks like the picture many people imagine.
For years, I searched for practical ways to support children who learn differently. What worked for other families often didn’t work for ours. We needed more flexibility, more creativity, and a lot more grace.
That’s why I created the CALM DAYS™ framework—a whole-child approach to learning at home that prioritizes regulation, realistic expectations, and sustainable support for both children and parents.
When I first dreamed about homeschooling, I imagined cozy read-alouds, exciting projects, and watching my children discover the world around them. While many of those moments have happened, our path has also included sensory challenges, learning differences, giftedness, anxiety, and plenty of days that didn’t go according to plan.
Over time, I learned something important:
One size does not fit all.
Not for curriculum.
Not for learning.
Not for families.
That’s why I created the CALM DAYS™ framework—a whole-child approach to learning at home that prioritizes regulation, realistic expectations, and sustainable support for both children and parents.
At Inside Our Normal, you’ll find practical strategies, encouragement, product reviews, homeschooling resources, and real-life stories from a family learning differently. I share what has helped us create more calm, less pressure, and learning environments where each child can grow at their own pace.
I believe God intentionally places children in families where they can be known, loved, and supported. I believe parents are uniquely equipped to understand their children, even when the path looks different than expected. And I believe learning is not a race.
If you’re homeschooling a neurodivergent learner, supporting a reluctant student, navigating sensory challenges, or simply wondering if you’re doing enough, you’re in the right place. I’m glad you’re here.
I’d love to hear about your family, your out-of-the-box learners, and the challenges you’re facing. Together, we can create more CALM DAYS.
