So, I suppose it makes sense to reflect on our homeschool journey in thespian terms as we begin our 13th year of homeschooling. I’m slowly realizing that my role in homeschooling high school is more of a stagehand instead of the director that I felt like in our elementary years. But like they say in the theater, there are no small roles.
Without my purple clipboard, I’d be lost. It’s one of those clipboards that doubles as a folder and I keep all our homeschool plans inside. It’s my roadmap to our homeschool week and without it we are toast! It’s one of the planning tools I use to keep our homeschool trucking along.
The ability to adapt curriculum is a perk of homeschooling; we get to provide a customized education where each child can thrive exactly where they are at. My children are above and below grade level in different subjects and is difficult for a school to accelerate and accommodate different needs at the same time.
ecently I found a new planner option that was both easy to set up and easy to use. Transferring my lesson plans took less time to transfer to Syllabird than it did to create my spreadsheets. Now, that is a homeschool planner I can use!
Teach by Dennis Dinoia, also known as Mr D, from Mr D Math which gave me ideas on how to teach my kids to become more independent in their learning. It was also encouraging to me to read how some of what we were already doing was successful for others as well, even in traditional classrooms.
