Who would have guessed that 2020 would be one for the history books when it started. It’s been strange, unexpected, and even good at some moments. As we reflect back on all that was and wasn’t this year, I’m sharing my Top 10 posts from the year.
We are on week 10 of our school year and we just wrapped up our United States Geography studies for the year. We started our US Geography homeschool unit early during our summer term, with the benefit that we will wrap up early this year.
For our first term, we did a Native American Unit Study. We started listening to The First Americans, volume 1 of A History of US by Joy Hakim. I had looked at this series before for our studies this year, but I get overwhelmed at doing the reading. When I found the audiobook on Scribd it was an easy decision to use this series.
Technology is not going away, and our kids need to be ready to use it as adults. Online classes can be a great way to help them learn the technology and also lighten the load on you as the homeschool teacher. The Skrafty community began as a group of moderated Minecraft servers for homeschoolers, and now offers a full range of online classes.
They want to know the “why” of everything, which can lead the family to some interesting discussions. Recently, it led us down a brand new trail for our science after a trip to Space Center Houston.
