We have made a pretty good normal for ourselves over the last 5 years. It’s taken some time and I’m still caught off guard on occasion. Fun family activities that others take for granted, like going to the movies, are often not an option for our family.
Recently I sat down with Colleen Kessler on the Raising Lifelong Learners Podcast to chat about our out-of-the-box kids. I met her a couple years ago at a homeschool conference and suddenly everything about homeschooling my kids clicked.
Every family who chooses to homeschool has their own reasons for making that choice. The reasons to homeschool your children are as varied as the families themselves. We have been homeschooling since 2013. My reasons to homeschool has changed over the years but we remain convinced that it is the best education environment for my kids and family.
It’s our 7th year of homeschooling, and each and every year looks a little different as we have a different mix of grades and interests. This year some of the big things in our school routine is a 1 day a week co-op for my oldest and virtual enrichment classes for the youngest and adding chores to our daily checklists.
As we added a child with challenges and eventually another brother, our routine changed. Now our school looks like a one room school house where as many subjects as possible are taught to everyone at the same time.
