MYTEK LAB for Online Technology Classes
It’s no secret I have a technology-minded teenager. As we plan their high school experience they are looking forward to using our homeschool flexibility to take a variety of technology and programming classes during their high school years. This year they are taking a live online technology class with MYTEK LAB.
My student has been on multiple robotics teams and learned a couple programming languages, so the question for planning the coming year is “What is the next right thing?” Information Technology 2from MYTEK LAB is the next right thing for now. Building on the programming language knowledge they have built, they will get to explore text-based programming across a variety of content areas, including Linux, HTML, game design, 3D graphic design and more.
Career Readiness with Online Programming Classes
Last year on our family vacation, we had a conversation with another family waiting at a restaurant. The other father and grandfather were impressed that my students had already learned programming languages before entering high school. Turns out they worked for a major video game developer as programmers. They encouraged them to keep learning because it is such a valuable skill set in so many fields.
Grandma is a former art educator and has also shared a presentation she heard at a conference where game developers said that they do need programmers but they also need digital artists who can code to work with the programmers to make video games beautiful.
These conversations have inspired my student to continue to pursue both their art skills and feed their love of technology to maybe pursue a career in the game design industry. In our homeschool we can work to find the right online technology classes so they are prepared. I love that we can help them grow their passions and strengths as a part of our homeschool.

The first thing that drew me to MYTEK LAB classes for my teen this year was the different approach. The last two years they have learned specific programming languages. The Information Technology classes at MYTEK LAB provide an overview of using block and text based programming languages in real world settings. It gives my students a chance to apply the programming classes they had taken previously and expose them to new places where they could use their coding skills.
The students need a laptop with internet access to participate in the classes. I love that no extra software is required for the class. All the software needed is provided in their student portal. There is a whole suite of web based applications for them to use and extra tutorials available for them to explore on their own.
In my parent/teacher portal I can register my students for classes and monitor their progress. I can see their grades on the weekly assignments as well as the teacher’s comments on their work. I can also see their student portal and look at the assignments they turn in myself.
Additionally, MYTEK LAB sends regular emails with class meeting reminders and the replay. On Fridays there is an additional email with resources and support for parents. They are great at providing tutorials for new families to discover all that is available to them.
