Every year our family makes a bucket list of the things we all want to do to celebrate the season. If it doesn’t make the list, it isn’t a priority for that year. It’s an idea that started at the theme parks. We can’t ride every ride every trip, so each visit each child picks a ride or attraction.
Recently I sat down with Colleen Kessler on the Raising Lifelong Learners Podcast to chat about our out-of-the-box kids. I met her a couple years ago at a homeschool conference and suddenly everything about homeschooling my kids clicked.
We chatted about what it really means to be a gifted student. It’s more than just being a fast learner and quick to catch on to new concepts. It’s about wanting to go deeper in their learning and always asking the why behind concepts. Gifted students are just as different from the typical student as other special needs students are, and our homeschool have the flexibility to reflect that.
Star Wars is a popular theme at our house. The franchise is stories that drive the imaginations of both adults and kids in my house. May 4th has become an all out holiday for us in recent years. The phrase, “May the Force be with you”, has inspired many to celebrate May the Fourth as Star Wars Day because of the similar-sounding phrase.
